Tell Mom You’ve Found an Angel

ANGEL ISLAND

By Nicole Honchariw

The destination: Angel Island.
When: Weekend afternoons (or late mornings, to beat the rush).
Picnic baskets are recommended, but just know: Bikes are also great to have on the island; if that’s the route you want to go, save the Williams-Sonoma run and pack a backpack, instead.
Cash factor: Moderate.

So you have a hot date, and by some luck of fate, life hands you a hot day? Treat them to a little island getaway. Catch the Tiburon Ferry, but skip the expected boozy brunch at Sam’s and head onward to Angel Island, instead. Easy hiking trails abound, none short of beautiful vistas for you to enjoy a well-planned picnic and provisions. If you want to come fully prepared, pop into Boudin Bakery and Cafe (just up the street from the ferry building in the wharf), and grab a classic sourdough loaf and some artisanal meat and cheese. If you’re getting to Tiburon by land, not sea, make the quick stroll up Tiburon Boulevard to Woodland’s Market where a bounty of fresh, locally sourced bites await. Just make sure you don’t miss the boat.
