Drinks on Point

FORT BAKER

By Nicole Honchariw

The place: Cavallo Point.
Where: Fort Baker/Sausalito.
When: This makes an excellent mini-escape for a weeknight, or a great post-outdoor adventure resting spot.
Please, gentlemen: If you’re planning an evening visit, dress sharp. This is a Marin County locale that still warrants a dress code.
Cash factor: Trends moderate to high.

You get the sense your date likes things done the old-fashioned way, and that’s ok, because you’re a gentleman and you know just the place to impress her. Start by picking her up, or offer to call a driving service on her behalf (you’re going to want her to enjoy her fancy cocktails, which she can’t do while worrying about driving the windy roads at Fort Baker). Your drinking destination for the evening is Cavallo Point, a swanky hotel restored from beautiful military buildings, which boasts an impressive bar and restaurant. If it’s a chillier evening, take a seat at the long mahogany bar inside and warm up with a rich glass of red. If you’re blessed with a balmier night, stake out one of the vintage tables on the patio and soak up the lights of the city and bridge- the views alone will provide ample conversation starters, though it shouldn’t take long to ease into deeper subjects. Doing day drinks? Preface the trip to Cavallo with a drive through the Marin Headlands and easy stroll to the lighthouse. Nature and champagne? Truly the way to a Northern California woman’s heart.
