Fall Into Line (the Dance Line)

NICASIO

By Nicole Honchariw

What: Dinner and dancing at Rancho Nicasio.
Where: Rancho Nicasio (West Marin).
When: Weekend evenings.
You’ll need: A great playlist for the drive out, your best cowboy hat, to tell your date to wear her dancing shoes.
Cash factor: Moderate.

For the date pining for the days of going steady and rock’n’roll romance, pull some up Chuck Berry on Spotify and take the long road out to West Marin, where Rancho Nicasio awaits as your beacon of old-fashioned fun and dance. Vintage Ford convertibles greet you at the front of the rustic hotel turned restaurant and bar (which, as you can wisely tell your date, was originally built on the Nicasio town square in 1867, and rebuilt after a fire in 1941.) The ranch style food begs to be relished, but what truly makes this spot a great date place is the nightly music. Check the band schedule before you go, and get ready to twist, shout, and shuffle the night away. Insider tip: Pay special attention to the couples whose dance floor moves look too good to be true- the ranch’s regulars will provide extra entertainment and inspiration for you both. Even if you’re too nervous to get out on the floor, this place will keep your date’s toes happily tapping.
