De Friday, De Night Date

THE RICHMOND

By Nicole Honchariw

What: De Young at Night. De Young Museum (Golden Gate Park).
Before you go: Brush up on the museum’s current exhibits (you’ll be thankful for some good talking points), grab some small change for tipping the bar staff, decide on where to have dinner afterwards.
Cash factor: All in, moderate.

Thursday night at The Academy of Science is a classic first date choice, but did you know that its neighbor, The de Young has a nightlife scene of its own? For that Friday evening date who’s proving difficult to decipher, plan on starting the evening with some wine and lots of outside stimulation. The performances and exhibits vary weekly, and the two of you can get lost amongst the crowds as you delve into your own artistic discussions. (And for the record, there’s no shame in admitting that maybe you don’t have anything too “artistic” to say.) A person’s perception of a work of art is a great way to gain some insight into their psyche- have fun with it! Once you’ve cracked a few new codes (or perhaps both agree that it’s all over your heads,) move onto 9th Avenue, where great, easy restaurants like Nopalito and Social Kitchen and Brewery will keep the night from feeling too formal.
