Little Peace, Little Quiet, “Little” trails

PRESIDIO

By Nicole Honchariw

Where: Presidio Trail Hikes (Marina/Presidio).
When: The fog usually burns off by late morning, which makes this a great post-lunch (pre-cocktail) option.
Don’t forget: A jacket (hey, sometimes the fog doesn’t wear off at all), comfortable shoes, light snacks, your wallet (for the aforementioned cocktails at the end of the trail).
Cash factor: Light.

You and your date are apparently both regulars when it comes to the great (San Francisco) outdoors, running along Ocean Beach on the weekends and spending leisurely days getting lost in Golden Gate Park. For this new interest, turn your attention towards the bridge, but look not to the usual suspect. Yes, Crissy Field is a classic, but veer off from the Marina crowds and head into the Presidio , where lesser known paths provide for peaceful and scenic hikes. Just a few steps into the eucalyptus trees, and the two of you will be pleasantly surprised to find your conversation the only sound around. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, have a picnic in the woods (you can grab easy, artisanal provisions beforehand at Marina Market on Chestnut Street), or if you don’t feel like toting your meal around, grab a classy yet relaxed bite at Presidio Social Club
