The Buck Stops here, Y’all

MILL VALLEY

By Nicole Honchariw

Place: The Buckeye Road House (Mill Valley).
When: A foggy weeknight evening, perfect for a warm booth and chilled oysters.
You’ll want: To dress smart and drive smarter (as in, don’t drive if you’re drinking the house martinis).
Cash factor: Trends moderate to high.

As much as Bay Area locals enjoy trying trendy new restaurants and diving into food fads, there’s something to be said about something so classic, it’s cool. The Buckeye Road House in Mill Valley will show your date you have an appreciation for old school swagger — and yes, that you’re not afraid to throw down on some high quality grub. Start at the bar with the classics, a martini and fresh oysters, and let the polished waiter escort you to your table (as always, be sure to wait and make sure your date is comfortably seated before you settle in.) Once you’re both situated, stay that way; you’re going to want to be nice and comfortable for this. While the restaurant is best known and regarded for its smoked meats and rich steaks, don’t fret if your date is maintaining a more modest palette: healthier options like seared ahi tuna, kale salad, and wood grilled salmon are just as delicious.
